Epilogue 5 - The last
Yuu-chan 2024.09.18. 22:13
Jibran stood on the beach, in the cold wind, hugging himself, and dazedly stared at the waves, in which he was searching for a month, and in which he was bathing, and almost drowning, and in which he made love with Seraing, and in which they cooled down on those sweltering days, not even doing anything else.
That one month had passed so fast that Jibran almost felt like they just arrived yesterday. Seraing called him to help with the packing, but he asked for a couple of minutes, to compose himself to that. They watched the sunrise for the last time, and already discussed yesterday that they will leave immediately after that, to return home on the date Mr Pauli set for them. They had no way to send messages, because the transceiver that Seraing repaired, didn’t carry the signal to the Institute, and here, the tablet also didn’t really work, although they tried to give a heads-up regularly…
Anyhow, this was the day of the departure.
He only realised in the last snap of the second that he heard softly sizzling footsteps behind him, and a warm hug had already locked him in. Coming up from his thoughts, Jibran leaned to Seraing’s chest. This embrace calmed him, and he felt safe in it.
„I’m coming soon, sorry.”
„No need anymore, I’ve already packed everything.”
„…Oh. Mn…”
He thought, he still had a little time, but it looked like Seraing was way more diligent than him – though he knew this already. Seraing was the one, who always kept them to the plans they set for themselves, the one who arranged things, who was in charge… Despite Jibran also liked keeping himself to schedules. Maybe he changed a little. He wasn’t that overzealous workaholic, since he realised that he could relax with his lover, and he could enjoy his pampering while doing nothing.
„You are quiet, sunshine.”
Until this point, Jibran rubbed his shell with one of his hands, which did not warm up from the touch – because his hand was also icy. But for this, he clenched his fist on it. He knew, what it meant: Seraing noticed his mood was low. Jibran sighed shallowly. He didn’t hate Seraing’s ability, but it still made him somewhat uncomfortable, that he couldn’t be sad even for a minute because nothing escaped Seraing’s attention. He loved this in him, but he also felt ashamed of it sometimes. He felt his throat tighter than usual.
„Don’t worry, I’m fine – he said now quietly, slightly hoarse.
„You don’t want to go home?”
Jibran did not respond right away.
He didn’t really want to go home, but yet he wanted. It was hard to explain.
„I’m stuck with my research, I can’t proceed, I miss my bed, I miss my bathroom – yet he complained, listing the things he missed, especially to remind himself. – It will be good to return home.
Seraing quietly hummed, and kissed his ear, which was also cold, so the man tilted his head to it, warming him up with his face after the kiss.
„But you have to work, and others will be there. We cannot be together, and you would not see me all day.” For Seraing’s words, Jibran pressed his lips together. Damn this dumb boy, for knowing him so well. „This was what bothered you?”
„Not as if I cannot live without you” He fought back, trying to be sarcastic, but his voice trembled, which exposed him all the time.
„You can, and you’ve already proved it. But you don’t need to.” Seraing started to caress Jibran’s crossed arms. „Jibran… we won’t be the same way, as we were in the last three years. We will wake up together in the morning… or I will wake you up since I know you. Then we will have breakfast, and we go to work. We will see each other in the lunch break. Then, when you finish in the afternoon, I will be there, and we will spend the rest of the day together, talking, you can tell your day, you can vent about your problems, then we will make love, and we can go to bed together. There will be no such thing, that you’re waking up alone, that you have to wait for me to answer a message, no need to think about it, if I wasn’t answering, because I was at someone else’s flat, forgetting you, hundreds of kilometres away from you.”
Jibran started to be moved that this kind-hearted ex-Judge comforted him so earnestly, and indeed, he felt a bit more relieved. Although he had not thought through all of these before, now as it occurred to him that Seraing was not going back to the Northern Base anymore – not without him at least – calmed down his raging heart.
Then Seraing added:
„But you need to be quieter when we have sex.” He said it causally. „If you will scream like this under me, as you did here, we might be banned from the Institute.
For this comment, Jibran’s face started to burn, and he got upset, sending his warm and emotional thoughts to the backseat.
„All of that is your fault.” He spat it out. „You are the reason I’m that loud! You can thank it yourself!”
Seraing giggled into his ear – Jibran shivered again. He couldn’t get over this sound, and Seraing knew it very well.
„It is my fault. I will be happily making you that much of a joy that you scream my name. But regardless, you have to hold it back. We don’t have our own house yet.”
Jibran sighed shallowly, and he could say many things, but with the mention of their „own house”, his heart softened again. Damn it, he couldn’t stay angry with Seraing for too long, when he said such things to him.
„I will see what I can do,” Jibran mumbled. „… It was good here.”
„Then we will come back.” Seraing suddenly said in a calm voice. „I don’t think we will have a lot of enthusiasm to do it in the winter if it is already so cold now, and we can use heating devices in the car. But next summer.
„… That is too far.” Jibran only argued in order to redirect the attention from his emotions. „You don’t plan to take a break until next summer?”
„I haven’t said that. But we will not come back until that time. I thought that next time we could go, and check out other military bases. You actually brought this up first. Then we could go to the Underground City Base too, maybe in winter. Supposedly, it’s always nice underground; in summer it is cool, and in winter it keeps the warmness.
Jibran felt so overwhelmed by these plans that he couldn’t even answer suddenly. He needed a couple of moments to scrap up his thoughts, and he got over his excitement, looking at the wild waves, though he didn’t really see them, as he was imagining, how many places they were going to visit.
„If we’re doing it like this, I barely will be able to work. Do you plan to stay at home? When do we choose our house? And when will we have our marriage?”
Seraing laughed, and slowly released him, and as his hands were sliding down on Jibran’s arms, he made him relax and let himself go, thus he reached out for his hand in the end, to intertwine their fingers.
„In an orderly line.”
To his surprise, Seraing did not pull him towards the car to leave; instead, he dropped himself into the sand, and pulled him down as well. Jibran’s leg had gotten stronger by now, none of them were lamer or slower than the other, but Seraing was still stronger than him, so he easily slated him.
As he was sitting there with folded legs, Seraing, before Jibran could think or do anything, suddenly leaned… over his lap, resting his head there!
Seraing never hesitated to do such cute things, but for some reason, its intimacy still touched Jibran. Even in one month, he didn’t get used to these things so much not to shiver from them. Back in the day, before they got together with Seraing, he always envied these interactions between others, in the deepness of his heart. Maybe this was the reason why he was burying himself in his work, because he had no luck having it, to do lovey-dovey stuff with his partner, and when he saw others – even the bastards like Lu Feng – get this kind of attention, it somehow bothered him a little bit. Not that much to wish bad things for others, or to want to take away their happiness, but it made him quite sad, so he showered his mind with his research.
And Seraing was aware of this, without Jibran telling him with his words, he accepted that Jibran wanted to do these shallow, clich things with him, and he made Jibran pull his head out from those researches that he was hiding in because he didn’t have to take care of them in every single second anymore to chase away his loneliness.
Seraing’s head was a bit heavy, but as he was smiling at him widely, like a child with sparkling brown eyes, those yellow sparks were jumping in his pupils in the morning sun’s light, making his entire face glow in gold… Jibran fell for him again a little bit. He really loved this man very much.
So, he put himself into a more comfortable position, and now he was the one doing something cute – with his shaking, cold fingers he started caressing Seraing’s wind-blew, messy brown hair.
„It should be cut soon.” He said quietly. For his words, Seraing reached up to stroke Jibran’s head as well.
„Yours had gotten long too. But it looks good on you. You look handsome with every hairdo.”
Jibran rolled his eyes, and looked away to the white sand. Why was the sun showering his face in such hotness so strong already at this early hour?!
„I’m average, Seraing. I don’t need the cap. I can see my reflection in the mirror, you know.
„For me, you are handsome. And beautiful. And cute. I love your eyes. And your lips, especially kissing them, but in general too.”
„Cheesey…” Jibran puffed, just to get over his embarrassment, but this wasn’t an easy task. „I will get diabetes, Seraing. I’m calling a sweetness alert.”
„Hm, I think you said at some point, that you have insulin.”
„That… maybe… but I don’t have it now. You can slow down with your sweetness, or else I’m not surviving until we reach home.”
„Then I rather not give you candies.” The other one stated suddenly with all seriousness, which for Jibran unwillingly looked back at him. „That would be easier, than restricting of showing my love for you. I don’t want to stop with that. You had an issue with that before anyway that I’m not saying or showing it enough.
„Okay, okay, it’s enough.” Jibran waved his hand to close the topic. „I understood. So… when are we going?
Seraing got very comfortable in the meantime, crossing his legs and hands in his laying, and it didn’t seem like he was in a hurry to get up.
„I’ve always wanted to lay in your lap.” The young man confessed suddenly, surprising Jibran with it. „So I’m taking the opportunity.”
Jibran frowned – he didn’t particularly mind it, but he thought, if Seraing wished this so much, actually they had a whole month to lay in each other’s lap – and Jibran did it in Seraing’s – and to do many kinds of cute stuff – in fact, they did. But as to why Seraing waited for so long for this, it was somehow weird, since yesterday they settled that they will be going right after sunrise.
Then Jibran suddenly realised.
„Ah… you little liar.”
„I’m not.”
„You only wanted to do this because of me,” Jibran stated. „Once again, because you wanted to please me… or because you are too lenient?” He bullied him a bit, but continuously stroked the man’s forehead. „Because I didn’t want to leave, this is why you are stealing time?”
Seraing realised that there was no point in denying it, probably, because he looked up with a smile, observing his face.
„You made a lot of progress in reading my mind, sunshine.” The other complimented him again. Jibran awkwardly drew out his mouth for this.
„I’m very slow… I’m still not noticing things immediately… And I didn’t read this from your facial expressions.” He protested.
„Why do you find it so difficult to accept every compliment?” Seraing giggled as an answer, saying something completely different, as Jibran was expecting, which once again made him pause in talking.
He wanted to protest against this too, but he realised that Seraing was right. He always got so embarrassed, when the young man flattered him. Despite he did it quite often, and it made his ego boost very well… so the issue wasn’t even that he couldn’t get used to it. Though it was true, he’d never gotten so many compliments like this before, maybe even in his entire life, as he got in the last month.
„I’m sorry.” He said it in the end, giving in to it. „I will be able once, surely. If… if I will not be in love with you so much.
„Hmm…” Now he was the one who felt it under his palm as Seraing was frowning, and his smile faded too. „Then I hope you won’t accept them ever. I don’t want you to not be in love with me so much.
„Love only lasts for a few months in a human’s body.” Jibran lectured him with his chin raised. „Love is no more than a chemical reaction. It will definitely fade away. And then the pink mist will dissolve, and will not be returning forever. Until that, we have to use our opportunities to do every kind of lovey-dovey stuff. Who knows, maybe once I will fall out of love, I will not want to have sex so much either.
Although this was not too romantic, he had seen this so many times before, even between animals. This is why he wasn’t so easy to accept that he had fallen for this lad with the beautiful eyelashes – somehow he imagined being in love differently, than as he was experiencing it. He thought, he knew, what he would feel, and how he should act, but his own experiences exceeded these ideas. He had no idea, what to do, and most of the time he misunderstood Seraing.
Jibran was startled, when Seraing suddenly sat up from his lap, and grabbed his chin. His grip wasn’t painful, he didn’t squeeze him, but he forced him to lift his chin, and looked deeply into his eyes, for he willingly-unwillingly felt that his face was getting hot, let alone his ears and nape, and his whole head.
But of course, his brain was frozen. He just stared at this handsome face, at the long eyelashes, and he got lost in them, forgetting what he was saying or thinking a moment before this.
„Then I will make you fall in love with me again. I will fight for it even more to make you happy so that your attention has no time to wander off me. I will fan the flame of your love, so it will not extinguish. If you take care of the fire carefully, it can burn forever. You only had to pay attention to it.
Jibran’s heart was pounding fast again.
He didn’t want to mention to Seraing, though, he probably knew anyway, that Jibran had fallen for him completely three years ago, and he couldn’t get rid of him from his mind and heart since then, even when he had not seen him for months… so, his hypothesis about the chemical love had collapsed there, actually. For him, it didn’t disappear in just a few months. Nay! It became even stronger throughout the years, with his emotions as well.
„Wow, such a poetic statement…” He mumbled it hoarsely, unable to hold back his emotional responses. „You are so incredibly stupid.”
Seraing’s face got softer for this, and the hand that was holding Jibran’s chin had loosened, so as to caress the corner of his eyes with his thumb, wiping out the wetness from it.
„And you are a little overthinker,” Seraing stated quietly. „You overcomplicated something again, haven’t you?
„Tsk…”
„You thought… if this „chemical procedure” fades away, I would not want to be with you anymore?”
„Leave me alone already… I d-didn’t think anything like this!”
„Didn’t?”
„… I was wrong.” Jibran swallowed. „I thought, I got used to it how you are reading in me, but I still hate you for it.”
Seraing’s smile widened, then he leaned over, and kissed his lips, not deeply, just like a butterfly. Damn it. Damn it. He indeed had a tiny fear in the back of his mind about what if only his own chemical love lasted for years, and Seraing would be the one who would lose that feeling once. But until this dumb boy hasn’t mentioned it now, he didn’t get overwhelmed too much by this thought.
„I didn’t leave you for three years, although I would have had a choice since people tried to hit on me so much.” Seraing reminded him, and for that, he almost „tsk”-ed again. „Our relationship hadn’t begun just now, my love. And you know, even if it is true, as you said that this is all just chemistry… Love still stays, when the chemistry disperses. It is not just a joke, when people stay together for decades, Jibran. Or do you think that in my proposal I was just throwing some dumb quotes at you, not even taking it seriously? That I want to grow old with you?
„Okay, I got it now, ah. I won’t overthink it anymore.” Jibran puffed, and pulled his chin out from the man’s palm. „Tsk… such a sweetheart again. You’re really trying to hit on me today.
„Because you feel down for leaving. I would do anything to make you feel better.
Jibran just sighed. He knew it too. Since they were still sitting here, on the beach, when they should have already been in the car, suffering, which was absolutely not Jibran’s favourite.
However, before they could continue to talk, suddenly they were startled, and looked aside, then relaxed immediately.
The coastline was very quiet and deserted in the first few days. Seraing and Jibran could only see shadows in the deepness of the sea, or caught fishes, and could only hear faraway roars sometimes, and invisible chirping of birds.
But it turned out that their presence probably just scared the surrounding land’s animals. After a few days of their arrival, they started to venture forth.
A flock of birds were approaching them. They heard their wings flapping just now. It was six individuals – they resembled seagulls and penguins, but at the same time, they looked like reptiles as well. Their heads were more like a lizard’s head, and the feathers on their bodies were so shiny and so tight, like scales.
Oh, and they were so tall like a human. If Jibran stood up, his eyes were in line with the bird’s eyes.
The animals approached them carefully. Despite they became friends in the last month, the birds still kept a respectful distance, and even if they came close that much that they were able to touch them, they didn’t stay long. It was as if they just came in to greet them at the tent or on the beach before they dove into the water – because they were water birds.
One of the birds was bigger than its comrades. They agreed about it with Seraing, that this could be the leader of the flock, and most certainly a male. They didn’t have any physical proof of that, but they both knew the behaviours of the monsters well enough to draw such conclusions from certain patterns.
Now they both stood up, waiting for the birds in that manner. As always, it was the leader who approached them the most, the others were looking at them from behind him.
In his mouth – which was shaped like a beak, yet it looked like a lizard’s mouth – there was a small mammal. Blood dripped from it on the white sand, colouring it with its darkness for a moment, before the water washed the patch away, making the sand white again.
The bird came to arm-reach, then bowed his head, and put his loot in front of them. Jibran cast a look at Seraing, and he looked back, then smiled at him slightly, and poked his back to urge him. Jibran shook – he was still a bit less brave handling monsters.
„Thank you… but you can eat it. We don’t need it anymore. We are going home today.”
The bird lifted his head for his voice. His eyes shone smartly, almost as if he had a human-eye. His pupils dilated and shrank, as he stared at him firmly with his head turned sideways. Jibran was briefly shaking. He might never get used to this… either… From this gaze his courage always shrank into his tendons, but he could run to nowhere.
It would have been a shame as well if he ran. These birds had never hurt them.
Just like in all the other parts of the world, monsters changed here, on the coastline as well. The soldiers had never photographed such birds before, these monsters probably had been „born”, when the distortion happened, and thousands and thousands of animals migrated to the South – here – to escape from the winter and the slaughter, which was happening at that time. The distortion had reduced the monster, they’d eaten each other up, annihilated whole species, while other species blended into each other, and new versions were born… Jibran was even more enthusiastic about taking notes and making discoveries.
Now he could record one more proof in his notes from the birds: they understood his language.
They’ve been talked about this with Seraing; in the past decades a lot of human intelligence had passed down certainly into these monsters’ paws, and that few animal species that had left, and walked between them were all very smart. Who knows, maybe these birds had eaten human genes at some point in time. Perhaps it wasn’t even that long ago, and they knew exactly how it feels like to be such a guy, like Jibran and Seraing.
And the proof was that when Jibran announced their departure, the birds hesitated a bit, then the leader bowed his head again – but not for picking up the prey. And all the other birds mimicked him.
Then, as if they were bidding farewell, suddenly they flew away with their wings flapping loudly. They were huge, and they generated huge wind, but they were moving so fast that soon they were the size of an average bird above them. As they flew into the blue sky, they made a circle, approximately still above them. Then they left the circle, and one by one they flew over the ocean, to throw themselves into the deeper waters. They went so far that Jibran barely could see where they dove into the sea. They didn’t appear again anymore. They haven’t taken the prey either.
„I think we should leave that here. I don’t want to bring it with us without being prepared.” Seraing commented quietly after he examined the mammal-corpse. „Some other animals will come for it, and eat it.”
„I still cannot decide if these birds brought something to us to eat because once you gave them a single fish,” Jibran said slightly sarcastically, but with a nostalgic, happy half-smile on his face. „Or because seeing what a „huge” amount of fish you caught they thought, we are such bad hunters, and they have to take care of us.
Seraing laughed out loud as he stood up again.
Indeed it was like that. At their first encounter with the birds, they were in the open water with Seraing, and they were fishing for lunch, they were pulling the prey into their motorboat – there were three or four tiny fishes in the net – when the birds appeared. None of them knew, if the other one was dangerous, and Seraing didn’t want just to shoot a whole flock of animals… so, he threw a piece of fish towards them, hoping they won’t attack them.
But later they realised that these birds were not that cruel. In fact… none of the monsters that were living here was vicious. They ran into a lot of smaller types of animals this month, but they could live in peace with each other. In such peace, that the birds might have been thinking that Seraing and Jibran didn’t want to kill anything by their own hands – and the next day they brought them a dead game.
From time to time they made an appearance.
Jibran was glad that he was able to see them one last time. He didn’t expect that such a tiny thing – which wasn’t that tiny since they were human-sized monsters – could get attached to him. Suddenly he felt like he wanted a pet.
„Seraing, I want a cat.”
Seraing was about to say something – judging by his gaze it would’ve been that it was time to go – but for this, he froze, raised his eyebrows, and looked at him so dumbfounded, as if Jibran was saying that he will get married with the leader of that flock.
„A cat.” He repeated. Jibran grinned widely, and he widened his eyes too while turning towards him, putting his hands on his chest.
„A cat.” He nodded, and blinked entreatingly with big movements. He practised it a lot how can he affect on Seraing… though, he didn’t really need to convince this man. He was always so lenient.
„Jibran… where should I get a cat for you?” Seraing was still looking at him blankly. „It’s not even sure if cats still exist… they have probably mutated by now.”
„You always say you would do anything for me, were you lying?”
Seraing opened his mouth, and then closed it. And then he fell deeply into his thoughts. It was visible that he took him completely seriously. Jibran waited for a little longer – naturally, he was just joking. Although he wouldn’t mind it if he could keep a pet, they never had this opportunity in this era. They didn’t even dare to keep a plant, for those were mutated too. They only knew from old stories that once upon a time, animals accompanied humans in their homes. Jibran obviously didn’t expect Seraing to get a cat; he also believed this was impossible.
But before he could reveal his own joke, this dumb, kind-hearted pushover suddenly spoke.
„I understood, sunshine. You’re right, I promised. Then I will get a cat for you.” Jibran’s jaw dropped. Seraing SERIOUSLY took him seriously. „However, I have a condition. I will be only looking for it after we moved into our house. For that, we have to go home. So if you want a cat, then it’s better if we hurry to go. Perhaps they will not let us have a vacation anymore if we don’t return in time.
Seraing just looked at him with an unchanging face, with his usual, stoic expression, and of course, he wore that familiar, slight smile as well.
Jibran’s legs were pinned to the ground, and a lot of things ran through his head.
No… Seraing wasn’t this dumb. This wasn’t about the cat… This was something else.
It seemed like he wanted to make Jibran start moving, but for some reason, it felt weird that he connected this with the cat. After all, they still wouldn’t have a house for a long time, even if they went home. They weren’t that stacked with usable buildings that were even close to the Institute. They discussed this a few times that they didn’t want to go too far away, because they both wanted to work with Mr Pauli.
But then…
Then he noticed that Seraing just stood, and let Jibran think through slowly what he heard, instead of pushing him towards the car. He was waiting for something.
Test.
This was a test.
Jibran tried his hardest in the past month to read Seraing’s reactions. Sadly, the ex-Judge was right – it was extraordinarily hard to focus his attention on one specific thing for too long. His brain was working fast, and usually, he forgot about his job, and started to speak, when he should have stayed silent. He almost felt like his eyes and brain wer rebelling against the act of staring at something for more than five minutes, even if that something was Seraing.
Now he stared at his face.
What was the trick? He wanted Jibran to find out if he was really talking seriously about the cat-thing, maybe? The stoicism didn’t mean anything… Nah! That was the main point. He didn’t show a single emotion, he let Jibran find the answer. Which he liked to do… just he had no idea what he should look for on a man, who was in control over his facial muscles to this extent.
This wasn’t fair.
At last, he risked it.
„… You just want to make me start moving… right?”
„What are the other options?”
„Well, this, that you want to manipulate me to go.” Jibran started to count with uncertainty. „Or you were dead-ass serious, because you love to make me happy, and you don’t want me to call you a liar rightfully… Or you’re just joking, and you’re waiting for me to believe, then you would laugh at me.”
„When you overcomplicate things it’s sometimes useful, but sometimes drives you away from reality completely. The answer is much simpler.”
„Simpler… then none of them were right?” Jibran’s shoulder sagged, but he was frowning. „Then why you were saying this?”
„You can guess while we go back, my love.” Seraing suddenly giggled, then once again he took Jibran’s hand, and leaving the animal’s corpse behind he began to drag him.
Jibran followed him, upset, and it made him a little sad when he saw that Seraing had already parked out from the shack. The only thing they could do was to close the doors – they’d already brought the boat back yesterday, and tidied after themselves, and Seraing took down the tent, and packed the many containers into the car, which were holding living specimens this time. There was no chance to steal the time.
Jibran sat on the passenger seat, didn’t go to the resting place, and didn’t adore his specimens. He looked out the window, as they began to drive, and was still thinking about Seraing’s words. But in the end, he just got confused. He knew, that he was overcomplicating a lot of things, but… damn it, Seraing didn’t give him a reference point of which direction did he overcomplicate, or if he still gasped his intentions! What if he was just messing with him with the testing? Perhaps, it was already overthinking?
He was thinking about it for so long as of which direction Seraing wanted to throw him off that he didn’t even notice they already left the ocean behind, and were heading to the city ruins hiding at the foot of the mountains.
„Seraing…”
„Hm?”
„… Help me out. I’ve already overcomplicated so much that I cannot untie myself.”
For Seraing’s quiet laugh, he puffed a little inside.
„Repeat what I said in your head.” His darling said. „Slowly.”
„Slowly… „you only can have a cat if we move into a house of our own, so we have to go home”.” He questioningly observed Seraing’s profile, and tried to catch any fluctuation. The corner of the man’s mouth had jumped up slightly as if he was having a good time. „Okay, then I think I know. You are just messing with me. Your only goal is to confuse me, and then make me forget that we have to return home, so you gave me a riddle, knowing I will overthink. Attention redirecting.”
Seraing’s smile widened.
„Wrong.” Replied the young man joyfully.
„You were waiting for my reaction.” Jibran immediately answered, a bit more hurriedly. „You were waiting for something from me, so you weren’t serious, you won’t get a cat for me. You were waiting if I would notice your manipulation.”
„No manipulation. I was serious about the cat. But I have to admit, perhaps it’s not going to be easy, and don’t expect that I will find one quickly. But I will search the entire world for a cat, for you. I’m not messing with you, and I’m not joking. But you are right in that I was waiting for something from you, and the cat wasn’t specifically the core of the matter. This is almost half of the answer already, sunshine. I say it again, for the last time, then you have to figure out the rest.” Seraing cleared his throat. „”I will be only looking for it after we moved into our house.” Remember. Not a joke. I’m serious. The answer is very simple, don’t overcomplicate it. I was waiting for something from you.”
Jibran started to get frustrated. He didn’t take himself as too stupid, and he knew that Seraing was very smart, but he felt like some information was missing for him to be able to understand what exactly the man was waiting for from him. He got completely confused, and a bit upset as well; he didn’t speak on that day for a long time out of sulk, as if he was mad at Seraing, for that he gave him an unsolvable riddle. But in secret, he tried to solve it all along, with not much success.
